Removing the Stiiness of Curvature in Computing 3-d Filaments

چکیده
In this paper, we present a new formulation for computing the motion of a curvature driven 3-D lament. This new numerical method has no high order time step stability constraints that are usually associated with curvature regularization. This result generalizes the previous work of Hou-Lowengrub-Shelley 7] for 2-D uid interfaces with surface tension. Applications to 2-D vortex sheets, 3-D motion by curvature, the Kirchhoo rod model and nearly anti{parallel vortex laments will be presented to demonstrate the robustness of the method.

One of the most common procedures for exporting and warehousing handmade carpets is keeping them folded over one another. Handmade carpets come out of their stable states by being folded, while increasing storage time can cause serious and sometimes irreversible changes to them. In this research, a pilot model carpet has kept folded under a load equal to 50 g/cm2 and then the applied load increa...
متن کاملA Novel Computer-Aided Method to Evaluate Scoliosis Curvature using Polynomial Math Function
Background: Scoliosis is a health problem that causes a side-to-side curvature in the spine. The curvature may have an “S” or “C” shape. To evaluate scoliosis, the Cobb angle has been commonly used. However, digital image processing allows the Cobb angle to be obtained easily and quickly, several researchers have determined that Cobb angle contains high variations (errors) in the measurements. ...

Let e be an edge of a G connecting the vertices u and v. Define two sets N1 (e | G) and N2(e |G) as N1(e | G)= {xV(G) d(x,u) d(x,v)} and N2(e | G)= {xV(G) d(x,v) d(x,u) }.The number of elements of N1(e | G) and N2(e | G) are denoted by n1(e | G) and n2(e | G) , respectively. The Szeged index of the graph G is defined as Sz(G) ( ) ( ) 1 2 n e G n e G e E . In this paper we compute th...
متن کاملNumerical Investigation of Turbulent Mass Transfer in a 90° Bend
This paper presents a numerical study of local mass transfer coefficients in a 90° bend using the RNG version of k–e model to include the influence of curvature on the turbulent transport. Simulations were performed for flow through a 90°, 3-D bend for Reynolds numbers of 13500, 90000, and 390000, Schmidt numbers of 2.53 and 700 and curvature ratios of 1.5, 2, and 2.5. The differences betwe...
